How to find a tech job in the United Kingdom as a Ukrainian or international candidate
Updated: · 2 min read · A1 Jobs editorial
The UK is Europe's biggest tech market, with most roles concentrated in London and a few regional hubs. For candidates from outside the country, almost everything runs through employer sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route, so the practical question is which employers are hiring and whether the offer meets the visa thresholds.

Employers with the most open roles
The Skilled Worker visa
- Salary. The general minimum is £41,700 or the going rate for your occupation, whichever is higher; a lower £33,400 rate applies to some applicants (GOV.UK). A Migration Advisory Committee note computes a higher general threshold, but we found no evidence it is in force — check before you rely on the figure.
- Job level. Since 22 July 2025 the job generally has to be at RQF level 6 or above, unless it is on the Immigration Salary List or Temporary Shortage List. The interim Temporary Shortage List runs to 31 December 2026. Check the occupation code of your specific role.
- Sponsorship. You need a job offer from a licensed sponsor and a certificate of sponsorship, and you must apply within three months of receiving it.
- English. New applicants need B2-level English.
- Costs. Application fees from outside the UK are £819 for up to three years and £1,618 for longer, plus the healthcare surcharge (£1,035 a year) and, for the employer, the Immigration Skills Charge (fees table).
Global Talent
The Global Talent visa is for leaders and potential leaders in digital technology, among other fields, and does not need an employer sponsor. It requires endorsement; check on GOV.UK which body currently endorses digital-technology applicants.
Ukrainians in the UK
People who already hold permission under a Ukraine scheme can extend it through the free Ukraine Permission Extension: 18 months, then a further 24 months, applied for within 90 days before expiry. It is not available to new arrivals, and time on it does not count towards settlement. A long-term position is expected later in 2026.
Working for a UK company from abroad
UK visa rules apply to work done in the UK; a standard visitor cannot take up paid work (GOV.UK). Remote contract or employer-of-record arrangements for work done outside the UK are a separate matter governed by the rules of the country where you live. See remote roles in the UK and worldwide remote roles.
