About the role:
Samsara is seeking a Data Engineer to join our Data team, comprising both Data Scientists, Data Analysts, and Data Engineers. Our team is at the forefront of enhancing data analysis efficiency and effectiveness. Our data engineers develop and maintain data pipelines integral to our analytics data model.
As a Data Engineer, your primary responsibility will be designing and maintaining data pipelines, primarily utilizing SparkSQL and Pyspark, within our central data lake. These pipelines are crucial for ingesting and transforming source data from our IOT devices and software products into our core data model, facilitating statistical analysis, model training, and dashboard creation.
This is a remote position open to candidates residing in Canada. Relocation assistance will not be provided for this role.

In this role, you will:
• Build and maintain highly reliable computed tables, incorporating data from various sources, including unstructured data like video and audio, Samsara sensor & product data, and customer metadata.
• Access, manipulate, and integrate external datasets with internal data.
• Deliver high-quality data with strong uptime and reliability requirements, including customer-facing data sets.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams such as Data Science & Analytics, AI/ML, and other Data Engineers to ensure high-quality data for diverse purposes from causal inference, model training, and dashboarding.
• Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices.
Minimum requirements for the role:
• BA / MS degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or a related discipline.
• 4+ years experience in a data engineering-focused role.
• Demonstrated experience in designing data models at scale.
• Proficiency in building ETL pipelines to handle large volumes of data.
• Experience with Spark-based data platforms.
• Strong command of at least one data orchestration tool (e.g Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect).
• Expertise in SQL, Python, and working with REST APIs.
• Familiarity with software engineering fundamentals and reading backend development code.
• Experience with version control systems such as Git/GitHub.
An ideal candidate also has:
• Familiarity with time series data and late-arriving data.
• Knowledge of Databricks, Delta Lakes, and Dagster.
• Previous experience working in a public cloud (e.g AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Exposure working on a data model for a product’s first-party data.
• Exposure to complex data, including ML outputs and/or client-side signals.
The range of annual base salary for full-time employees for this position is below. Please note that base pay offered may vary depending on factors including your city of residence, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This role is also eligible for an initial RSU grant with no vesting cliff, and ongoing refresh opportunities tied to performance, subject to plan terms and conditions. What You'll Do
As an Escalation Engineer, you’ll join our growing global Escalation team that sits at the intersection of our customers and our engineering teams. You will deliver exceptional support experiences to some of the world’s largest enterprises by owning complex investigations end-to-end and driving systemic improvements back into the product. Your frontline insights will shape product priorities and directly impact how Fortune 500 enterprises experience Island.
• Own complex investigations end-to-end: Manage escalated cases from initial triage through root cause analysis and resolution, spanning browser, network, cloud, and endpoint layers.
• Analyze real technical data: Work directly with support debug packages, Chromium traces, network captures, log platforms, and diagnostic tools to isolate browser behavior, analyze network infrastructure, and correlate logs across distributed systems.
• Collaborate with R&D: Create detailed, evidence-based escalation reports with reproduction steps, logs, and traces that enable engineering teams to act quickly to resolve issues.
• Be the customer's advocate: Maintain the communication loop with enterprise customers from escalation through resolution, translating complex technical findings into clear updates.
• Drive systemic improvements & cross-team triage: Identify patterns across escalations, contribute to knowledge base articles and runbooks to reduce future volume, and participate in prioritization discussions where your insight directly influences what gets fixed and when.
• Incident Response & Coordination: You’ll occasionally join high-impact production incidents affecting enterprise customers, partnering with customer-facing teams and Engineering to help coordinate investigation and remediation efforts. You’ll also contribute to post-incident analysis, including root cause analysis (RCA) documentation.
Must Have
• 5+ years in a technical support escalation or similar customer-facing technical role
• Networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, TLS/SSL, proxy architectures, VPN concepts
• Web debugging proficiency: Familiarity with browser developer tools, network traces (HAR, net-export), HTTP/HTTPS analysis
• Log analysis experience: Comfort working with observability platforms (Coralogix, Sentry, New Relic, or similar) to query logs, traces, and metrics
• OS knowledge: Windows and/or macOS internals, enterprise endpoint management concepts
• Cybersecurity awareness: Understanding of enterprise security concepts (zero trust, DLP, secure web gateways, endpoint protection)
• Excellent written communication: Ability to write clear, structured technical reports for both engineering teams and enterprise customers
• Self-directed investigation skills: Comfortable driving investigations autonomously, triangulating across multiple data sources without a predefined playbook
• Composure under pressure: Ability to manage frustrated enterprise stakeholders with empathy and ownership
Nice to Have
• Experience with enterprise browser, endpoint security, or SASE/SSE products
• Familiarity with Chromium architecture, extensions, or browser internals
• Identity and authentication expertise (SSO, SAML, OAuth/OIDC, Azure AD, Okta)
• Code reading ability: Can read and follow code in JavaScript, C#, Go, or similar languages to understand product behavior
• Scripting ability (Python, PowerShell, Bash) for log parsing or reproduction automation
• Background in incident response
• Experience supporting Fortune 500 or large enterprise customers

As a Data Engineer in Supply Chain Operations, you will take technical ownership of the end-to-end data lifecycle—spanning system architecture, pipeline design, production development, and continuous operations. You will build and scale high-throughput batch and real-time streaming data pipelines that harmonize data streams across menu planning, forecasting, procurement, fulfillment, and logistics.
In this role, you play a critical part in driving operational efficiency, cost optimization, and supply chain scalability by ensuring our global data infrastructure is performant, resilient, and mission-critical. Partnering closely with Data Scientists, Operations Analysts, and SCM stakeholders, you will model complex physical domain entities and engineer robust data assets that power real-time tracking, analytics, and automated decision-making across HelloFresh's operational business processes.
Lettuce share what this role will be responsible for
•
Design, build, and maintain robust batch and streaming data pipelines connecting procurement systems, warehouse management systems (WMS), logistics, fulfillment, forecasting, and customer feedback data.
•
Develop real-time data integrations for tracking ingredient inventory levels, order assembly status, and carrier shipment tracking across distribution centers.
•
Partner with Data Scientists and Operations Analysts to operationalize demand forecasting models, track inventory accuracy, and monitor key business metrics like cost per box or fulfillment error rates.
•
Ensure high data quality, freshness, and lineage tracking for operational dashboards, executive KPIs, and automated alertsWork with modern cloud data technologies such as AWS (S3, EMR, Glue), Databricks, Snowflake, Apache Spark/PySpark, Kafka, and Airflow.
•
Collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders in Procurement, Fulfillment Operations, Logistics, and Product to translate physical workflow requirements into robust data infrastructure.

Contribute to a collaborative knowledge-sharing environment by providing technical guidance and coaching to team members and operational partners.

Proven track record of scientific or engineering work (Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field).

3+ years of professional experience as a Data Engineer delivering high-impact production pipelines.

Fluency in Python, SQL, dbt, and PySpark for building scalable data pipelines on modern cloud infrastructure.

Strong data modeling expertise (dimensional modeling, relational architecture, event-driven streams) applied to physical supply chain or logistics operations.

Familiarity with software engineering best practices, including Git, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and cloud platforms like AWS.
